Coaches and players discussed the tournament with members of the media

All 12 teams were represented in Palmerston North as the 2020 U-18 Men’s Softball World Cup began with the official press conference today.

Coaches and players discussed the tournament with members of the media, with Australian coach Adam Rindfleish saying the standard will be high.

“There are no clear top running teams here, which is great for competition,” Rindfleish said.

“It’s going to be exciting to play everybody.”

Danish coach and New Zealand native Kevin Stockford is excited to begin the tournament.

“It’s really special to share a once-in-a-lifetime experience with these young men,” Stockford said.

“We’re really looking forward to showcasing our skills against the best teams in the world.”

South African coach Mamphiri Sethosa believes the standard of South African softball is improving.

“The sport is definitely growing in South Africa,” Sethosa said

“It is played over nine provinces, and is showcase more and more in school, which is fantastic for the development of the game.”

Rafael Salguero, the Argentinian coach is eager to begin the tournament.

“Our preparation has been great,” Salguero said.

“It’s a great opportunity to visit a country that lives and breathes softball.”

The World Cup begins at 11am NZDT tomorrow, as no. 21 ranked Guatemala take on no. 11 ranked Denmark
